What is a Psychometris?

A Psychometrist is a psychological professional with special expertise in the use of acknowledged and registered psychological tests to objectively measure knowledge and abilities, personality, interest, attitudes and educational performance. All Psychometrists are required to write the national board exam of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and to register with the HPCSA before practicing independently.

Who am I?

I am a Psychometrist Independent Practice and registered with the HPCSA. I completed by BA Psychology Degree as well as my Honors Degree through UNISA and completed the BPsych Equivalent course with Stellenbosch University. I did my internship through Awerbuck/Schickerling PLC as well as Dr. Emily Pienaar, both situated in Stellenbosch. I took the huge leap to open my own practice in July 2020, during Covid-19. My office is situated in the picturesque Stellenbosch, at the Centre for Mental Health in Oewerpark.

I am a natural problemsolver and researcher. I knew from a young age that I wanted to work with people and help them. I have a passion for teenagers, although I enjoy working with the younger children too. I find it extremely satisfactory to play a positive role in someone’s life. I always believe that there is hope, regardless the problem or obstacle – sometimes we just need to look with different eyes!

Assessments

All assessments include an intake appointment. This is a formal appointment with the parents where as much information as possible is gathered. After this appointment, a test battery is compiled and a date for the assessment is diarised. Scholastic assessments usually take about 2 -3 hours with Subject Choice and Career Guidance Assessments taking around 4 – 5 hours. A feedback session is scheduled for about 10 working days after the assessment. Feedback for Subject Choice and Career Guidance assessments can be done the day after the assessment, where possible. Not all the tests listed below are administered. Test batteries are individualised to fit the reason for the assessment. I work closely with an Educational Psychologist where the question is raised about possible learning disabilities. Assessment Accommodation Assessments will be done in line with the requirements of the WCED and will be supervised and signed by an Educational Psychologist.
